Biography
Without The Skatalites there would never have been reggae. From Jazz, Calypso and Mento and especially Rhythm n Blues, they created a rhythm that was entirely new, which they called “Ska”.
Whether recording for Studio One, Treasure Isle or Prince Puster, The Skatalites dominated Jamaica in the 60’s.
They were and are an institution, an aggregation of top-notch musicians who didn't merely define the sound of Jamaica, they were the sound of Jamaica across the '50s and '60s.
Since the 1980’s they have been touring
the world. Now they have finally
recorded those favourites from “Guns Of
Navarone”, and “Freedom Sound” to
“Ride me Donkey”, “Skata Skata” and
Lester’s Mood”
If you only own one reggae record, make
it from the source.
